Summer fun within the local community
At The Learning Camp, our goal is to provide children with special needs unique learning opportunities in a fun and secure environment. Rather than limit our campers’ experiences to certain areas or activities, we want them to experience all that our community has to offer during the summer months. We believe that when children are having fun, they are learning, and what better way to learn about life in our community than to experience it directly.
What our camp offers
Our focus is on exposing our campers to new learning opportunities while ensuring their safety and enjoyment. Every day at The Learning Camp involves a new community-based experience for our campers. Activities include outings to the pool, library, sprinklers, outdoor sports, indoor fun parks, and so much more. We also expose our campers to important skills such as taking the bus (short durations with no transfers) and making purchases at local stores. Activities are scheduled rain or shine, suited to the weather, and adapted to meet the needs of our learners.
To help teach valuable skills and prepare our campers for another school year, we also provide weekly speech therapy and weekly occupational therapy groups. These groups are included in the camp fees, provided at no extra cost, and run by certified Speech and Occupational Therapists.
Our staff and expertise
We are excited to apply our 10+ years of experience in the field of special needs education to ensuring your child has the best summer possible, all while helping them explore and experience our community. Our camp is run by individuals with experience and education both in the field of special needs education and recreational therapy. In addition, our camp is supported by a highly experienced and qualified staff comprised of Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBAs) and ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) Therapists.
Our campers and ratios
We accept children aged 5 to 11 with special needs and their siblings (reduced rates apply). We understand that each child is unique, which is why we meet with you and your child before camp begins to make sure their camp experience is tailored to their individual needs. To ensure quality services and each child’s safety, we accept a maximum of 15 campers per week and determine group ratios based on the needs of each individual camper.
More than just a day camp
In addition to camp programming, we also offer early drop-off and late pick-up options at no extra cost. Additional services such as individual speech therapy, individual occupational therapy, specialized tutoring, ABA therapy, social skills and peer play groups are also available. Furthermore, to help families find adequate services throughout the summer months, our camp runs for the duration of the summer, from the end of classes right up until the start of the new school year.
