We believe that learning should be fun, positive, and interactive! Our Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA therapy) services use Verbal Behaviour (VB) and your child’s motivation and interests to teach functional skills across all key areas. Whether you’re looking to improve speech, build language and communication, teach social and play skills, increase independence, or tackle specific challenges you may be facing, we can help.
What is ABA Therapy and how it can help your child
ABA is a science using principles of learning to change behaviour. Teaching based on the principles of ABA (often referred to as ABA therapy) is the most effective treatment for children with autism and other developmental delays.
ABA focuses on using positive behavioural strategies to teach skills across all areas of development. ABA can be used to teach functional language and communication skills, play and social skills, independence and self-help skills, and academic skills. ABA can also be used to address behaviours of concern such as feeding and eating issues, sleep problems, toileting issues, and challenging behaviours.
Establishing the right program objectives
Before starting an ABA program, we work with you to identify goals for your child. We also evaluate your child using established assessment tools and skill tracking systems, such as the VB-MAPP, PEAK (Level 1 Certified), Early Start Denver Model, ABLLS-R, and AFLS. These results are used to identify areas of strengths, as well as areas where your child may be struggling. We then use both your own input and the results of our assessments to create an individualized ABA program that specifically addresses your child’s needs.
Program objectives are designed by our team of BCBAs® and Clinical Supervisors and are highly individualised. A detailed written report is provided to you prior to implementing any goals or objectives for your child. Goals and objectives are closely monitored through data collection, progress tracking, and team meetings so that they can be adjusted and new goals introduced as needed.
A team of professionals for your child
Each program is developed and maintained through ongoing supervision by a team of professionals consisting of BCBAs®, a Clinical Director, and Clinical Supervisors. Depending on your child’s needs, your team can also include speech therapists and/or occupational therapists. Because you know your child best, you as parents play an important role on your child’s team.
We believe collaboration between key players in a child’s life is essential for their continued success. While we offer a range of in-house services, we are also always happy to consult and work with any other professionals or important people in your child’s life. We can meet and collaborate with schools, daycares, psychologists, healthcare professionals, government service agencies, and any other individuals involved in your child’s care.
Our ABA programs are delivered by experienced therapists who work one-on-one with your child. Therapists are responsible for implementing interventions that specifically target your child’s tailored goals and objectives. They also record data and chart progress while maintaining a fun and safe learning experience. Both the therapists and your child are observed working and playing together regularly by our Clinical Supervisors to ensure high-quality service.
Sessions take place in the nurturing environment provided at one of our centres. We also offer our services in the child's school, daycare, and home depending on the region.
Parent involvement: A key to success
We understand that as a parent you know your child best. We also know that no one will ever be as invested in your child as you. You as parents play a key role in ensuring that your child is able to meet their full potential. It is also essential that you know how to support your child in their everyday life. Parents are invited to participate in team meetings and observe sessions. Included in all our services, we provide training, homework, ongoing communication, and support. Your child’s best chance at success comes when we all work together as a team.
